The common cold

J.F. Oberlin recommended drinking plenty, bathing the feet every evening, staying out of the cold and away from extreme heat. Head colds and chest colds were relieved by steam from hot water. If a cough or insomnia persisted, a quart of treacle was recommended with an infusion of elderberry blossoms.
